Thank you again Paul,
The letterhead header/footer contents are in Word's header/footer; I can however get it to work by opening a new document applying the steps you suggested and copying the letterhead header/footer into the new document. A bit long winded but it gets there in the end. I think I am still missing something but thank you for your help. Denis
