![]() I have been e-mailed my company letterhead which I want to use for future correspondence; how can I make sure the letterhead header and footer is not carried over in subsequent pages, and is there a special way I should save it as a template? Hope this question makes sense. Thank you. |

Hi denisca,
Simply configure the document's page setup with a 'different first page'. See Page Layout>Page Setup>Layout.

Hi Paul
Thank you for that. Still not quite there; if I open my letterhead in Word, and do as you suggest, it seems to open a blank page as page 1 and the letterhead becomes page 2. Does the 'apply to' box have a bearing? I know I'm missing something; more help please. Thank you Denis |

Hi Denis,
'Apply to' should be left at the default - 'whole document'. Also, make sure your letterhead header and footer contents are in Word's page header and footer, respectively.

Thank you again Paul,
The letterhead header/footer contents are in Word's header/footer; I can however get it to work by opening a new document applying the steps you suggested and copying the letterhead header/footer into the new document. A bit long winded but it gets there in the end. I think I am still missing something but thank you for your help. Denis |

Having created the new document via the method you described, save it as a template [File|Save As > Save as Type = Word template (*.dotx)] in your templates folder. Then, whenever you want a new letterhead document, create it from the template.

Perfect. I wasn't far away; just needed that final push over the line.
Thanks again. Denis |
