Word 2003 has problems printing at the same speed as when I type on the keyboard; as though it cannot print out the words as fast as I type on the keyboard.

First, check what else is running, via Windows Task Manager. You might find there's a process chewing up a lot of CPU time.

You might also try repairing Word (Help|Detect & Repair) and checking that whatever addins you have installed are functioning correctly.
