Default Problems closing Word 2007 and editing .doc files

I currently have Office 2007 installed on a machine running Windows Vista Ultimate. I can get Word to open just fine. However, every time I close it I get an error message saying that Word has stopped working. It then searches for a fix online. Here's what I've done so far:

1) I ran the Office Diagnostics. One problem was found, but was not able to be fixed. I do not know what the specific problem was that was discovered.

2) I ran Windows Updates, including SP1 for Office 2007. That didn't help.

3) I then ran a repair on MS Office through Programs in Control Panel. The first time I ran it I got an error message that mentioned the following:

MS Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working.

I then tried running the repair again and it worked. Unfortunately, that didn't fix anything. Yes, I did restart after the repair finished.

The other problem I'm now having is that I can open .doc files that were already created, but cannot edit them. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would please shed some light on these issues. Thank you.
