You can do what the original poster asked for by putting every page in a different section but that is overkill and makes the document very difficult to edit. In the case of a thesis, this could be a disaster.

The links I provided show how to do it, including not having a number on the last page.

I disagree Charles. Your claim that I put every page in a section is ridiculous. Pages 7 to 300 are all in the same section. Pages 4-6 are also in the same section.

Here's what you should have said, "Endzone that ain't bad for a rookie and only 2 hours time".

Thanks.

Watchdog, I'll tell you what. I just happened to have a LOT of time on my hands, and I will walk you through it step-by-step complete with screen shots, etc. I am also using Word 2003. But, I don't think the forum here will allow such a long post without moderator approval. If you want to email me, I will try to do it this morning between 0100 and 0500 if you're still having trouble. my email addres is exreo2 yahoo

Perhaps you should have paid closer attention to what Charles said:

Charles did not say should put every page in a different section or that you had done so.

It looks like I had 2 section breaks that weren't necessary at the bottom of pages 1 & 2. I removed these section breaks. Now there are only 3 section breaks:

1 at the bottom of page 3
1 at the bottom of page 6
1 at the bottom of page 300

I also formatted the page number text to Verdana 9-point, and I changed the distance the header is below the top of the page from the default .5" to .2".

File attached.
