Thanks for the links!

After removing the automatic updating in the Devloper - Template and saving (I also tried to save a template of my document), now when I open it up on my laptop all of the formatting and styles I created are gone and it looks like the default fonts and styles. I think we are on the right track just need to understand this template stuff. Now when I open the document on my other computer I have lost formatting (i.e. spacing, indents, etc.) and the fonts appear to be the defaults (on this computer these are similar to the documents). When I go to Developer - Template, automatically update document styles is still checked (that is confusing since I removed it and saved the file)? Must be applying the default template now.

All you should have needed to do was to disable the auto updates. Saving a template was unwise and probably explains why you've lost your other Styles.

Before I made a template (after creating a new file name for the document), I removed automatic updating in the Developers template only and then tried to open on my laptop, but when I opened on my laptop it was the default settings. I am assuming unchecking this automatically update function reverts the document to the default style settings of the computer being used?
