If you re-read my last post, you'll see that you also need to delete a tab character between the header text and the page #, so that you end up with only one.

I tried that. It caused disaster.

I may have some structural problems in the document vis-a-vis margins and indent markers.

Take another look at the document I posted - you'll see that I removed both the centre tab-stop and that the header has only one tab character between the header text and page #. If you don't have that kind of setup, the page # will wrap to the next line if you end up with a long header text.
