Default Need help matching text to the Character Map

Is there a way to cross-reference a character in my document with the Windows Character Map? I have a character, a dash-shape, that appears in my document. Copy/Paste only returns a blank space, so I need to find it on the Character Map. I tried changing the text to a default font, but that didn't work either. My next step is to convert to .TXT, but I want to try to find it first.

<EDIT> After more experimenting, it looks like it's related to the Find/Replace box and not the character. Every hyphenated word in my document was red-underlined as if it was a spelling error. When I replaced dash (-) with dash (-), the document cleaned right up. I've done this before with double-quotation marks to force them to hash in the right direction. So is this something with AutoCorrect?

I'd still like to know if there's a way to cross-reference the Char. Map with a character in a document.
