This might be hard to explain. I'm working with a document I didn't create and the page numbers are 12-1, 12-2, 12-3, etc. I want to change the pages to 13-1, 13-2, etc.
Each individual chapter title uses a custom style named GOM-1 which does not contain numbering. The page numbers only show in the Table of Contents and the Footer. When I go into the footer and click on Page Number, Format Page Number, the 'Include chapter number' is checked and it says the Chapter starts with style: Heading 7. Heading 7: When I click on Modify Style for Heading 7, in the detail box it states the number style is 1,2,3, +Start at: 12. I have not been able to find a way to modify the Heading 7 style so it starts at 13. The option of a new start number only seems to be available in a brand new numbering style. Any help would be appreciated! I've been messing with this for 3 days now ![]() |

You'll have to modify the multilevel list format. Place the insertion point in the first level 1 paragraph of the document (with heading numbering, this usually means the first Heading 1 paragraph). Click Home tab | Multilevel List | Define New Multilevel List. In the dialog box, click level 7. Click More to see all options, and then change "Start at" to 13. Click OK.

Thanks for that solution, Stefan, but it didn't work for me. There is no numbering in the document except in the footer and the TOC. When I followed your instructions it added numbering to the paragraphs. I just want to change the style so the page numbers change in the footer. That would then make the TOC correct. It's complicated, I guess.

To which paragraphs was numbering added? Note that you can format the numbers as hidden text; then they won't show up in the document but still display with page numbers.
Were you able to change the starting number for Heading 7?
