Default "ize" words vs "ise" words

Afternoon all.

US firm based in London, running Office 2007 SP3.

Our users are convinced that Word used to highlight occurances of "ize" words as typos if the langugae was set to UK English, now this no longer seems to be happening.

I know the majority of ize/ise words (rationalise, authorise etc) are acceptable spelt either way but in Word when the language is set to US English any "ise" word is flagged as incorrect but in UK English both "ize" and "ise" words are allowed, this doesnt help when you are trying to set standards in a document.

At first glance this may sound pedantic, but our real reason behind working this out is continuity, it would look unprofessional for a document to have different spellings of the same word in it.

Has anyone come across this before ? How do we force Word to see any ize word as a typo when in UK english.

Thanks all.

Add them to an exception list.
Mastering the Spelling Checker

As a lawyer I find that "form" and "from" are often mistyped. In a legal document this is a problem. I add both words to the exception list and both will be flagged as errors, requiring a manual check of which word was intended.

Thanks Charles, appreciate the quick reply. Maybe I didnt fully grasp your response or maybe I followed the wrong set of instructions.

When I added them to the exception list neither recognise or recognize were flagged as typos, it seemed that the exception list I added them to excluded them from the spell check. Removing them allowed the spell check to run but this only flagged recognise and only when in US English settings.

the dictionary exclusion list I was modify was the "excludeDictionaryEN0809.lex" in the location:

C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\UPro of

Maybe you could assist me a little further ?

thanks again.

Sorry, you've reach the limits of my knowledge on this subject. I don't know the different language codings. Just to make sure, you are apparently correctly adding them to the exclusion list and not to a custom dictionary.
