word 2007 grayed out areas

I need to add my signature to a document. The area is grayed out so you can tab from one area to another. It will not allow me to paste my signature in there. Is there a way to remove that block?

I suspect the document has been "protected" in some way or another. Try removing the protection. This is done under the Developer Tab. If you don't see a Developer Tab, see Developer Tab in Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010 for directions.
