Hello. I have a document in MS Word, it is very long with lots of section breaks (a book with 28 chapters). I noticed after a while, while I am putting the chapters in, that the page numbers on the even pages now have what looks like a little grey apostrophe next to them. I didn't put that there and I can't get rid of it. Any ideas, without me having to start again? I don't have time to start all over again (it has taken me hours to get this far). I also think that copying and pasting the whole doc elsewhere won't be any good, as I have so many different sections and headings and styles in use. Thanks.

Update: as the document is becoming longer (I am copying and pasting more chapters in), now the little symbol has appeared on the odd numbered pages too.

Does the mark appear when you print your document or is only on the screen?
You say you've tried to fix this but don't tell us how you've tried. Have you tried editing your headers to remove the mark? If so, have you tried doing it with field codes revealed (Alt-F9)? Here is much of what I know about this: Sections / Headers and Footers 2010 Why so many sections? If you are adding sections to change your header/footer text, consider using the StyleRef field instead. |
