Note that full screen mode which existed in older versions of Word can still be used in Word 2010. Right-click the Quick Access Toolbar and select the Customize Quick Access Toolbar option from the context menu. In the "All Commands" category, locate the Toggle Full Screen View button and add it the toolbar.
