Hello,
I've got Word 2010 and I'm having trouble getting rid of an endnote. I've actually deleted the endnote text and the endnote number, and also it's reference in the body of the document itself, but Word seems to think the endnote it still there. If I place the cursor before the spot where the endnote is supposed to be and press delete, it says "This is not a valid action for endnotes". I would like to get rid of it completely so that Word updates the numbering for all the other endnotes after it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks |

Hi gib65,
Your description suggests the endnote paragraph marker you can't delete is part of the previous endnote. In that case, you should be able to clear the unwanted endnote paragraph by deleting the one before it. Without seeing at least the affected part of the document, it's difficult to diagnose.

Thanks macropod,
Turns out the endnote reference was not deleted from the main body (even though it was no longer showing up). I had to delete the end of the sentence it was tacked onto and the beginning of the next sentence, and then rewrite them. Then for sure it was deleted. |
