Protection bounces user to top of document

I've protected a Word document with some forms inside it. Clicking outside the forms immediately returns the cursor to the very top of the document.

Accidentally clicking outside a form forces the user to scroll back down through seventeen pages to find the form they're completing.

Is there a way to prevent this behavior?
