I had a question about external links. I have a MS Word document (2007) with external links to several MS Excel files. It grabs a chart from each Excel file.
Now, when I move the Excel files, the charts are no longer accessible and can't update (since the directory for the files have been changed). Is there a way that Word can automatically update the link directory to these Excel files, or do I have to manually change the directory to each Excel file in MS Word? Thanks in advance. |

Hi Lucas,
Whenever you move the file referred to in a Link, you need to update all the references in all the files that Link to it.

macropod,
Thanks for your reply. I thought that was the case, but wasn't completely sure. |

If the Excel objects were inserted in-line, you should be able to see the field codes they use by pressing Alt-F9. You can then use Find/Replace to change the paths (Note the use of '\\' for the path separators instead of '\') and and filenames. When you're done, simply press Alt-F9 again, followed by Ctrl-A, F9 to update the links.
