Default Problem with picture border

I have 2 questions here:

QUESTION 1: In Word 2007, is there a way to put a border on an image with one click? In Word 2003, we were able to select an image and click on the little box icon to insert a border (after setting the color and width the first time.) In W-2007, this function has options for only Text and Paragraph (no Picture). If I use the Text option, I get a small white gap at the left margin. How can I get rid of this white gap?

I know I can use the right-click Format Picture option or the Picture Tools tab to insert a border, but those function require numerous clicks/selections. We have photo logs with hundreds of photos, and those procedures are too labor intensive for us to do. The one-click way was perfect for us.

QUESTION 2: Another option would be for us to save all of our files down to .doc format, but I am concerned other problems will arise with that. Does anyone have any info on that?

Thanks for any help!

Hi samhdc,

Probably the simplest solution is to insert the pictures without bothering about the borders, then use a macro to apply them afterwards. If you're working with a lot of pictures, this would be faster than even the Word 2003 approach. Indeed, if all the pictures are in the same folder, you could even have the macro do a bulk insertion.

Hi Paul, Thanks for responding. A macro presents several different problems (some figures are maps or other different animals and they do not get borders, plus no one here knows how to distribute macros to freelancers).

What I'm really hoping is that there is a simple way to get rid of the white line that appears to the left of the photo when I use the Text border style.

If all else fails, I can record a simple macro that adds the border, but I would have to go and install it on everyone else's machine, and for freelancers, that would be more of a problem.

Do you know, are there any other threads around that might have graphic specialists?

Thanks again for your help

Hi samhdc,

How are you applying the Text border style?
