I have a large Word file, it's a book of poetry. Unfortunately, the table of contents was not formatted properly with headers and none of the titles of each poem are linkable/clickable.
I know how to do this manually but it will take an extremely long time. The names of the poems are already there; is there a way that I can do some sort of multiedit so that Word will find the matching poem title's location and link it together? Thanks for any help. |

Hi DracaDeco,
The only practical way of doing this is to change the Style that each poem's heading is in, to an appropriate Heading Style, so that a proper TOC can be created. Provide the existing table of contents has exactly the same names as the poem headings, you could use Find/Replace, to look for each one and change the Style. Having dome that, you could delete the existing table of contents and insert a Word TOC. The above process could be automated via a macro, but you'd need to eliminate any page numbers, tabs, etc from the existing table of contents and it could well take longer to develop & test the macro than the manual process I've already outlined.
