I am using Word 2007 and have the "Allow text to be dragged and dropped" option checked. Part of the time, I can drag and drop text, but most of the time it does not let me. Any suggestions?

Is there a pattern? For example, does it occur in some documents only? If so, do these documents have something in common? Maybe they were all created from the same template?

I have not been able to find a pattern. Most of the documents I work in were created from the same template, but not all of them. I experience the problem when working with normal document text, as well as text within tables.

Ïntermittent issues are the worst kind. :-(

Have you tried using a different mouse, or perhaps reinstalling the driver for your current mouse?

Thanks for the Help. I think I figured it out. I use several monitors and sometimes have the Find and Repace window open. Drag and Drop does not work when that window is open.

I also discovered that if the Cross-reference window is open in Word drag-and-drop is disabled - even if the box is checked under Options. This drove me nuts until I saw Rbooks post on Find and Replace. Thanks for helping me make the connection!

Good point. I believe all "modeless" dialog boxes work that way.
