Default Extremely large files

Hi,

I have a document that was sent to me to reduce because it was extremely large (55,356kb zipped). Upon opening it I noted it was not heavy on graphics, had only about 178 pgs and opened as a .rtf file. I saved it as a .doc with no noticeable difference I am currently using MSWord2003 but I am not sure which version this document was created in.

Could this result from a pdf to word conversion? If not do you have any suggestions on what might be the cause so that I can prevent this from happening again and more importantly how I might reduce this file? Also please note the track changes are on and need to stay on for this document.

Thanks,
Pam

Note: I just checked and found that multiple visio images are extremely large (6.5mb). Is there anyway to reduce their size?
