Default macros disabled; local files not trusted

I've been working with (about 300) files in Word, using a very simple macro to change the page layout. Just the page size and margins.

Today when I open a document (.docx) for editing I get macro warnings and no option to continue.

I've googled for this and followed some suggestiuons - so

In trust centre all macros are enabled.

The templates and documents are in locations marked as trusted

If I try to run the macro I get "the macros in this project are disabled"

Grateful for any help

Restart your computer.

You should never enable all macros!
I recommend the option to Disable all macros (with notification). The file containing the macro needs to be in a trusted location; the documents on which it is being run need not be in a trusted location. Macros in files in trusted locations will run without any notification if the Disable all macros option is in force.

Are the macros stored in:
  • Normal template?
  • A different Global Template?
  • The attached template?
  • A document?
The file containing the macro needs to be in a trusted location; the documents on which it is being run need not be in a trusted location.

The macros is in the normal template

my templates are in

C:\Users\john\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
which is a "trusted location" including subfolders

I've followed your advice to "disable .. with notification

Following an update restart the macros are working again. Just a glitch?

Thanks Charles

You are welcome.
Windows sometimes gets even more flaky when waiting for an update.
