Hi everyone. I am an elementary school teacher looking to create a reporting template. I am a complete novice. I read this article How to create dependent drop-down lists in Word document? and was able to produce controlled/dependent dropdown boxes with the information that I wanted, however I am looking to take it one step further and cannot find the information that I need to do this.
I would like for the user to be able to select "Level 1" in the first box, and have a list of 10 descriptors for that level appear in the next box. I would like to have the descriptor boxes appear 3 times so the user can list 3 different descriptors that relate to Level 1. Can I have that content controlled drop down list appear three times without having to select "Level 1" each time? |

Not only can that be done but, using content controls instead of formfields, the second and third dependent dropdowns can be programmed so they're not available until their preceding one has been updated and such that the updates omit the already-selected item. See, for example: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-... dropdown list. For a demonstration of creating the initial dependent dropdown, see: Help with cascading dropdown list

Okay thank you. I still don't quite understand how to do what I would like to do from those posts. I have successfully made a dependent drop down but I would like for the dependent choices to be available again. In the food example, what I would like is for the user to be able to select "Fruit" and then have the dependent choices of "apple" "pear" "banana" "lychee" "kiwi" appear three times so the user can select "apple" as their first choice, then in another drop down they can also select "banana" as a second choice.
EDIT: I think I found my answer by scrolling further down these links. Thanks again for all of your help. Last edited by ashleyf; 03-19-2020 at 09:44 AM. Reason: solved |
