Default Run Office in 32-bit Mode for Speed?

I'm running Word 2019 (64-bit mode) on Mac OS X High Sierra (the penultimate OS version). I have a 12 processor mac pro. But Word runs very slowly especially my macros.

I read some place that unless you have very valid reason (which didn't apply to me) you should run Word in 32-bit mode for speed.

Is this true? If so, do I need to completely uninstall Office and reinstall, or can I somehow switch the mode to 32-bit?

Does sierra allow 32-bit apps?
The advice you've read applies to Windows versions.

Apparently Apple will discontinue after Mojave (latest OS version). So your answer is "yes".

As for the second part of my question, do I need to reinstall or is there a switch I can toggle to run in 32-bit mode?

In general 64-bit code should run as fast or faster than 32-bit code. The main reason for running Office in 32-bit mode is for compatibility with 3rd-party addins, some of which aren't 64-bit compatible.
