hi Tony, I know what the MID function is - I've used it quite a lot in my own coding. It's just that your code threw a wobbly on my system (32-bit Office 2010 on 64-bit Win 7) for whatever reason and I didn't have time to sort it out. I might try a re-boot later on and see if it goes away.
