Inexplicable automation errors in Word and Excel

After some online research, I solved this by (re?)registering mscomctl.ocx
regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSCOMCTL.OCX

Go figure!

Interesting. Could you explain how you did this, in case some of us also run into this problem?
