Default Change the size of a column width once a merge tag is in there

Hi there

I have made a table to enter text into using word 365 and for the life of me I cannot work out how to move the columns to the correct sizes after copying text into it. I have merge tags which I distorting the column sizers, the tags are way bigger than the actual text that will go in there. How do I fix this? I can't seem to drag the column to the correct size.
