Default Is there a one step way of inserting cells with contents

I can't see any one step way of copying a block of cells (initially a part of a column) then inserting them. You seem to need insert cells that you want to post in and then paste the cells with contents onto those new cells. Its a bit of nuisance when you have to do that eight times. Is there a way?
