Misnumbering tables

I have been trying to number the tables in a document which has three sections seperated with section breaks. Second and third sections contain tables but tables in section 2 are misnumbered. Chapters in section 2 are numbered as 1,2,... so on whereas chapters in section 3 are numbered as A, B, etc. Section 3 tables are correctly numbered to look like Table A.1, Table A.2,..., however, Section 2 tables are also numbered in "Table A.1" fashion though I want them to be numbered as Table 1.1, Table 1.2,...
