Default Losing rows when pasting split cells

I have a table (4 columns, 17 rows) in which I have split each cell of the third column into six smaller rows. Whenever I cut and paste any of the larger rows that contain such a split cell, the information within that cell is lost and only the top row of the split cell is copied over.

This happens whether I paste the row back into the table, or anywhere else in the document.

If my terminology makes it hard to visualize the problem, please let me know so I can somehow make the situation more clear. I'll really appreciate any help.
