How to find a lost file?

I have a piece of software for recovering lost images but is there any software for recovering lost files?

There are many such utilities, of varying quality. That said, your chances of recovering a deleted file are inversely proportional to whether and how much you or the operating system has written new files/data to the drive from which the file was deleted.
