When you open a Microsoft Word document linked to an Excel workbook, it may take longer than expected to open, especially when connected to a network. For a registry patch to reduce such delays, see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/970154
Note that the registry subkey referred to in the article depends on the Office version: • Office 2007 - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\W ord\Options • Office 2010 - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\W ord\Options • Office 2013 - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\W ord\Options • Office 2016 - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\W ord\Options

Marcopod, thank you for your answer.
Although the description of the problem on the Microsoft support site is different to my problem I tried it anyway. This was not the solution to my problem. “In Microsoft Office Word 2007, when you try to open a Word document that contains many links to Microsoft Office Excel charts, a delay occurs before you are prompted to update the links.” I do not have a delay before the prompt to update de links. My main problem seems to be that, when the Excel file is on a network drive, Excel opens en closes after every linked field when updating Word. When the Excel file is on a local share or is opened in advance then there is no problem. |
