I have either forgotten how - or there is no way to do - what I thought I used to be able to do in MS Project; probably the former. I have a project with about a dozen resources and a few hundred tasks, and a bunch of resources are over allocated.
I have the gantt chart on the top and the resource graph on the bottom. I select a task in the top and I see the resource usage graph for the first entry in my resource sheet below. Excellent. I can now scroll left and right in the bottom right pane to find the red bars and over allocation, and I can scroll up and down on the gantt on the top until the task bars line up with the red overextended resource task assignments. I can then reduce the percentage of the users time assigned to the task in each task until I get a satisfactory allocation for this resource. Now I select the next resource in the bottom left (many of these tasks have a bunch of people working on them). I now go to the right bottom and scroll left and right to find the red bars again showing me over allocation. Up the top in the gantt I now scroll up and down to find the task bars that align with the red resource allocation bars. That all works fine. But now, I click in the resource column of the top left to change the assigned percentage for this resource and bingo - the bottom resource graph now pops back to the first entry in the resource sheet. To carry on working with this second resource I have to continually reselect the resource in the resource sheet on the bottom left. And this it true for all resources. I want to LOCK the resource graph for ONE resource until I have dealt with all the over allocation for that resource. Then lock the next one and repeat - and so on. But the continual popping back to the top of the sheet is driving me nuts. Does anyone know any way I can do this? Thanks - Lawrence |
