One thing that I have found with MSP is that I always have a dummy milestone at the end of the plan which is called "fake CPA" and is a long way in the future. Then I use deadlines to investigate the critical path to any given location in the plan by copying the finish date into the deadline field. I did a
blog post on this which might be interesting?
