I am using Project 2010 to convert some project tasks and milestones from PowerPoint to a Gantt chart.



I need to be able to print it and display similar information as I present in PowerPoint, but the problem is I can't figure out how to get both Task Name and Resource on the bars of the Gantt chart.

Using the text tab from bar styles, I can set the right text to 'Resource Names', and the bottom text to 'Names', but only the resource name is displayed.

I'm not sure why I can only get one item to display. Setting the bottom text to 'Name' pushes the bars apart, so I know that space is being created for the text - I have even tried changing the color of the text to see if that helps, but for some reason it will not display at the bottom.

If I remove the bottom text and change the right text to a different value, nothing updates. I can't figure out if there's something I should do to refresh the view.

Interestingly I can change these values on individual bars with no problem, but I want to change them globally.

Any ideas?

Just an idea, make sure in bar styles you're changing the right kind of task/milestone?

Yes, it is the task bars that I am updating. I managed to get the resources to appear to the right of each bar, but for some reason I can't get the text of the task names to appear now.

Ahh! Think I may have figured out your problem. Try displaying and then highlighting the summary task for the whole project, then open bar styles and edit.

I tried that but it made no difference. The setting 'sticks', but I don't actually see the task name displayed (although I see the increase in space between bars to accommodate it).

OK, I figured it out - there is a separate item for manual tasks, and I was try to edit only for tasks - I updated both and I now get what I need.
