Cumulative work is a timescaled field. What are you trying to accomplish? If you want to know how much work has been performed, that is Actual Work. If you want to know how much work is left, that is remaining work. If you want to know how much work in total was planned, that's baseline work. All of those fields are also visible in the Project Summary row to roll up all the values for the entire project.
