Default Continuous task automatic actualisation

Heavy title but did not know how to phrase it otherwise!

Let's say I have a task that one resource must do daily and takes 2 hours each time.

I don't want to keep completing that task every day manually.

First, to represent that task, I'm torn between 2 options:

1- A daily recurring task with a duration of 2 hours for each

2- A single task, as long as the project, with a 25% utilization.

But again, I don't really care, which one, as long as I would have a way that, as time goes on, either each recurring task auto completed automatically or the single task actualize itself automatically at the prorata of the number of days into the projet.

Anybody can tell me how to do this?

Thanks

Sorry, but neither option is going to complete automatically. You can quickly update a task (or multiple) through the Update Project command - but Project will not, on its own, automatically update progress.

Well, you are right indeed. I guess, it help me out formalize my real question which is, which method is the best and why, between having a two hour daily task recurring 365 times in a year or a 365 days task at 25% utilization?

Thanks

To add to the process - if this is a task that must be done for two hours every day and it doesn't sound like you really intend to track it - are you really just trying to account for the resource not being available for two hours each day?

Exactly it! I don't need to track its advancement really. She does system monitoring for 2 hours. The resource is available for other assignment for 6 out of her 8 hours per day.

I'd suggest either setting her max units to 75% (6 out of 8 hours) or change her work schedule to only work 6 hours per day. If you don't need to track the the system monitoring task(s) in any way - just omit them and change the resource's availability.

Yes I know, but althought it does not need to be tracked as per say, it still needs to be accounted for in reports. That's why, I keep it in the project. Bringing us back to the initial question Which one of the two is better.

Thanks.

I'd drop the long task in from the start of the project through the end. I am not fond of recurring tasks because of the constraints on the tasks. If you don't care the show the details - use a hammock task.
