Best way to organize resources
Hi, I was just wondering what would be the best way to set up resources within project, I am still in the process of adding all materials that my project will use, the problem is as the list gets longer so does the tooltip(I am currently assigning resources via the gantt chart view, left clicking the resource name tabs) I would like to set up in more condensed manner.
hope this makes sense |

Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean by the "tooltip" getting longer. I am a fan of the split screen view (right click in the Gantt chart and select show split. I then click underneath the Resource Name field and start to type the resource name. Project will suggest the resource with those starting letters and I press tab to accept that name.
Regarding "condensed" - without knowing more about what resources you are using - that is difficult. The Assign Resources dialog (Resource Ribbon) does have the ability to filter the list by Resource Group - and that may help if you are able to categorize your resources by job or title. |

hi again, I mean the amount of resources listed in the drop down menu in the resources name colum of the split view.
I would like to track around 25 different types of fittings but the fittings are made of 4 different materials. I can then cost what material would be cheap to use for the task. for example COPPER fitting a fitting b fitting c STEEL fitting a fitting b fitting c IRON fitting a fitting b fitting c PLASTIC fitting a fitting b fitting c It makes sense in my head but my head is a scary place |

The only way to limit the number of resources shown is through the Assign Resources Dialog and a filter on Group.
You could, for example define your resources as: Copper-A Copper-B Copper-C Then enter Copper in the group field. In the Assign Resources Dialog, click the [+] next to Resource List Options and select the Group... filter. Then enter "copper" and it will only show you the resources with copper in the group field. The other option is to start typing in the resource name field in the split to scroll to those resources. |
