All of that is correct.
Specficly were should I chech and insure the 12 hour day. Yes, work day/shift is 7 am to 7pm. Should I tell it somewhere to tell it 7pm to 7am for the night shift? Thanks

The setting is in Tools > Options. There is only one setting per project. After you create the links between your tasks, it will schedule them as needed. The default begin and end is just for tasks scheduled without predecessors and successors.
So, what is not working now?
