The date display is controlled through Tools > Options, View tab. Short of custom fields to show dates formatted differently in different fields, you cannot accomplish your second request. You can have different views with difference date formats by changing the table definition. Choose View > Tables, More tables, select the table and edit to see the Table Definition dialog.
