Hi all
I didn't save a baseline in MS Project 2010 before I entered actual progress last week! If I save one today and then enter this weeks progress will that be ok? Also, do I need to set the status date to today before I enter any progress? Thanks Jo |

If you save a baseline after tracking - the tracked data will be copied into the baseline fields -- so you will miss any variance against plan for those tasks.
If you need variance information (which most of us do), save either a full baseline now (before entering other progress) or a partial baseline if you don't have the fully developed plan. I hope this helps Julie |

Hi Julie
Yes I need to look at variance. Will set a full baseline now. Presume I need to set the status date (after setting the baseline) to today's date, and then enter the progress this afternoon? Thanks for you're help Julie |

You're welcome. You would want to set the status date if you are using the Update Project command and tracking a large number of tasks in that way. The status date is also helpful to move incomplete work from the past forward to the status date.
I hope this helps. |
