Default font in table always becomes PMingLiU

I can't find any way to solve this very frustrating problem.

I create a table (usually by copy & paste) in a slide.
Inside the table, I type some Hebrew characters, using font "David".
Everything appears OK.
I close the PowerPoint file.
I open the PowerPoint file.
All of my lovely "David" font text has been changed to nasty "PMingLiU" font.

I can try any & all reformatting efforts, but nothing will get it to retain the specified "David" font.

I have asked a coworker, who has the exact same problem. (Well, to be fair, I'm not positive that her ugly font is "PMingLiU" or something else.)

Any ideas?

Help.

Thanks,
Curt

Forgot to mention that it also forces the text direction (of the same Hebrew text within a table cell) to be left-to-right. Again, I can set it back to right-to-left text direction, but it will not survive beyond the current session.
