Default Inserting 3d file "An error occurred while importing this file"

Ok, so at 0745 this morning, and up to that point I could import .glb files no problem into my presentation. At 0800 I got this message and can no longer do it. Have tried re- installing, repairing, reboot, Have tried it on 3 other PCs and none work. My work laptop however, which has not been connected to the internet for a few days works no problem.

Latest install PPt, Windows 11 pro.

I've tried every importable format and nothing works. What has changed and can anyone help?

I really think this is one of those bad windows updates. I have noticed this week that things have been running a lot slower than normal. While I dont know for sure if that truly is the issue it would check out since the laptop you had was not connected to the internet and would not have gotten the update.
When you install Office 2021 even though it's the most recent install file did you also go up to file > Account > Update Options > Update Now?
Sometimes updates have to be manually downloaded like that. Let us know.

Thank you :-) Only way I could get this to work was to copy the entire Microsoft folder from the PC that worked and paste it over the folder on the new PC that wasn't working. Not a pretty workaround, but hey.

Urgh, this happened again, one minute, no problem with .glb imports, next minute, no chance.

Have re-installed Office, have tried copying whole Office folder from another pc which worked before, nothing works.

Anyone have any ideas?

I wish I had some information. When you copied the entire windows folder like last time you updated the configuration of something. We'll probably never know what. It appears that some kind of update breaks it. I wonder if somehow it's video card related. Have you tried updating the video card drivers?

All the drivers are up to date.

It's so frustrating and makes absolutely no sense. Files which I have imported continually over the past months without problems, suddenly get this error. I've spent hour and hours and hours trying to find the reason.

Sometimes, if I change the colour of a part, it will work, other times not. Sometimes if there is a duplicate part hidden, it will work, sometimes not.

As an example, I have imported a cylinder without problem, duplicate the cylinder and try to import it, error message.

I wish there was an alternative to powerpoint because this is truly awfui.

hmmmmn interesting. I am trying to get my head around why it would sometimes work. can you share a simple file that I could take a look at and hopefully check into the glb properties to hopefully find a solution? Probably need to put on google drive and provide a link.

Ok, so little steps, I have divided my model up into its component parts. Individually, each of these can be imported as a glb file and work fine.

however

If I join more than three or four of these together, I get the file error in Powerpoint. This makes me think that perhaps Powerpoint has changed the maximum size or complexity setting that it can import.

Is there a way of getting a stand alone, earlier version of powerpoint to try?
