Default Issue involving "escape" from full screen (slide show) and re-connecting to projector

Hello,

I googled my issue, and came up with nothing.

When I do a presentation my laptop is connected to a projector and external screen. I do the presentation in "slide show." However, whenever I exit the slide show (by pressing "escape" on my keyboard), I no longer see anything on the big screen (I do see ppt on my laptop) other than a large windows logo. Then I have to re-connect to a projector by pressing "duplicate."

Have any of you come across this issue? I'm using powerpoint 2013.

Thanks in advance.
