Is the video MOV can be played on Vista? MOV cannot be inserted in PPT.
You can set your PPT backgroud with right click the slide And, if all the settings are the same, I think you don't have the right Codec on your XP computer.

Have you played the original video (BEFORE it has been imported) on your XP system?
It's possible that it's your video settings that are the issue - maybe your contrast or brightness settings are out of whack!
