Default Slide Master Formatting Not Editing in Normal View

I want to create a bilingual slide master where two different layouts can be chosen for the slide, either one 4:3 layout which occupies the entire screen or two 4:3 layouts, one in English and one in another language.

This way, slides which are mainly pictures will just show up as a single slide because a picture is by definition bilingual. Slides which are content will show up as two slides next to each other.

So I went into slide master, did all the editing layout, but now the all the text boxes that I made on the slide master are fixed in normal view and I cannot edit the content of the text boxes I created in master view in normal view. How do I change the text boxes in master view to be a format for normal view?
