The method used to save on the server depends on the kind of connection you are using.
For a POP3 connection, you need to do the following: 1. In Outlook, click on Tools, and then click on Account Settings. 2. Double-click on the E-mail account. 3. Click on the More Settings button. 4. Click on the Advanced tab. 5. Check the option "Leave a copy of messages on the server". (You may also want to select the option to remove when deleting). 6. Click OK, Next, Finish, and Close. Note that only incoming mail can be left on the server. POP connections to not support saving Sent items or other folders on the server. For an IMAP connect, mail will automatically be kept on the server. An IMAP connection will sync your Inbox (and sub-folders) with the server, and the default delivery location cannot be changed. For an Exchange (HTTP over RPC) connection, all content (mail, contacts, calendar) are typically left on the server by default unless deleted through Outlook. If you have changed the delivery location, here's how to change it back: 1. In Outlook, click on Tools and then select Account Settings. 2. Under the E-mail tab, single-click on the Exchange account to highlight it. 3. Click the Change Folder button. 4. In the Choose a folder box, select the folder that corresponds with your Exchange server. This folder will typically be named Mailbox and/or will have your email address. The icon looks like a small clock and house overlaying a white page. Once this folder is highlighted, click OK. 5. Click Close. Hope this helps. -SW |

I have a POP3 connection.
How does Outlook knows where is the SERVER? I did not get any option to set "where to save" when I tried your tutorial. I do not want a "copy" of my emails on a Server. I want the original emails to be saved remotely in another Hard drive / location. It can be a Server or an external hard drive or an FTP location, but not my local PC. Can I just point out another directory for Outlook to use as default directory? No copies, no backups, just the original files to be elsewhere! thanks in advance ![]() |
