I work for a very small company (5 employees) and we created an email account for a new employee today. Her account is connecting to the server (the username is underlined), but when we try to open Outlook, we get the following error message:
"Cannot open your default email folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)." We don't have an IT department, being so small, so there's no one I can call to take a look at it. I've tried updating everything, uninstalling and re-installing the Office Suite, all to no avail. No one else is having a problem accessing their email, and there's nothing wrong with the email server as far as we can tell. Any ideas? They would be much appreciated. |

Thank you, SpiderTech. I've tried following the advice on both of those sites, unfortunately I run into the following issues:
In the first link, the website advises the user to go to the following filepath: c:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ However, when I click on my username, I don't see a local settings folder. If I choose "owner" as the username, I can get to the Application Data folder, but the only thing in it is Google (with a few subfolders that lead to a dead end anyway). The second link recommends that I run "regedit", then go to this registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem I get down to services, and the MSExchange folder doesn't exist. Ahh easy fix,
Stick to the first website as the second is a registry edit. using your operating system, select Control Panel, Folder Options, View Tab, "Show hidden files and Folders". You should then see the folder. I have a few questions to ask you about the way your connected this user. - Based off the error, this user was given there own profile and email account on this computer? - Under Control Panel, Mail (XP) Mail 32 bit ( Vista, W7), Select Show profiles..Is this users profile visable and set to allways use this profile? Thanks! Weirdly enough, after selecting "show hidden folders" it didn't show the correct file path, but when I opened up Outlook this morning it decided to work. I have no idea what I did, but I can access Outlook now. Thanks for all your help!
(to answer your question, yes, the user was given a profile and set to always access this account) |
