I installed Office 2010 and Outlook opened successfully, with all my old emails (yeah!) but after about a minute, it closes and I get 'Microsoft Outlook has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly.' I checked for updates, installed 12 updates, I've rebooted, still keeps shutting down.
Suggestions? Thanks! ![]() |

Verify if you’re able to use Outlook in safe mode using the following steps:
1. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run 2. Copy and paste the command given below and then press Enter: Outlook /safe If you’re able to work with Outlook, then follow the steps given below to disable Outlook add-ins. 1. Click on File > Options > Add-ins, click on the Go button besides Manage: Com Add-in 2. Clear the checkboxes to disable the add-ins listed in the current window Try these steps first to see if this fixes your problem. |

Unfortunately, Safe Mode didn't work. One thing I did notice though, when I was going to try and quickly sneak in to try your second suggestion, there is supposed to be a 'one time' optimization process done on the mail box and that has not been able to be completed. Not sure if that's the problem or if it isn't completing due to whatever the problem actually is.

Fixed--ran the Repair Outlook Data Files/ Inbox Repair Tool, aka scanpst.exe, and that fixed it. The directions on finding the location were slightly off, Program Files (x86) instead of just the Program Files folder, but a quick search got me to the right place.
