Hmmm....so I was able to get it to stop sending, by going back into online mode and canceling the send. I had done this several times in the past. No idea why it worked in that particular instance.
Now I just sent a few emails with small attachments. A 3MB doc file got stuck...GRRRRR

Cancel the Send/Receive Process & then click/drag the email over to your drafts. Open it and 'resize the picture or attachment' by following the directions here.
