Question Outlook 2007 .msg readable in Outlook 2000?

Hi all,

I have an office of about 20 people. Three of us are on Outlook 2007 - the rest are on Outlook 2000. We often save .msg files to our server directories for project specific record keeping of emails. We don't have the capacity in our exchange server for loads of saved emails so we save them off elsewhere.

We have encountered a problem were the Outlook 2000 users are unable to read the saved .msg files from any of the Outlook 2007 users. Outlook 2000 will provide the user with the error "unable to read file" and thats it.

They all have the office compatibility suite installed so they can open a work with any document from the latest versions. The problem only appears to occur with outlook 2000 users attempting to open a saved .msg file from an outlook 2007 user.

Any suggestions or questions? Thank you for your time.

I haven't seen this one before, but it may be a UNICODE issue. Not sure I have a good solution for you...your best solution is probably to upgrade those Outlook 2000 users (it's way out of support and not Windows 7 compatible) to a newer version.

Alternatively I guess you could try storing your saved e-mail on a SharePoint server or you could expand the capacity of your Exchange server. Storage is very cheap these days.
